Although property conveyancing and motor racing may seem like an unusual pairing, the two companies share a common trait: Both mutually rely upon speed and experience in their day-to-day operations.
Shortly after launching our own brand refresh in 2022, RM Property Conveyancing seized an opportunity to become a sponsor of the Cody McKay Racing Team’s Aussie Racing Car.
For RM Property Conveyancing, this partnership also represented an exciting and unique venture for our property conveyancing firm to engage with the community and to support a great local business based in our hometown of Newcastle NSW: Cody McKay Motorsports an Australian Motorsport team.
To kick off the partnership and celebrate the launch of our brand refresh, Cody McKay Motorsports very generously played host to an official RM Property Conveyancing open day. We invited business partners, neighbours and family along to meet and chat with Cody, enjoy a BBQ and an afternoon of fun. Cody’s company supplied two racing simulators for everyone to experience throughout the afternoon, and he even brought car 82 along for all to explore!
In mid September, as a thank you to some of our key business partners, we hosted an exclusive Go-Karting event, held at Xtreme Karts Warner’s Bay. Again Cody very generously donated his time for the day, giving all participants a very unique experience with track walk, racing tips and engraved trophies. This was a greatly successful day, and allowed us to give back to some of the individuals who have supported our business.
At the end of the 2022 Aussie Racing Cars Motorsport calendar, Cody organised an exhilarating sponsors day at Ringwood Park Motor Sport Complex. Cody gave everyone the thrilling experience of hot lapping with him in a Bathurst 6 hour class winning Commodore, sharing a tiny taste of his workplace and demonstrating his passion and skill for motor racing.
The company
Established in 2010, Cody McKay Motorsport has competed in a wide array of motorsport events within the biggest categories in Australia. Cody McKay Motorsport prides itself on its ability to lead the pack, no matter the vehicle.
The team’s major sponsor is Radical Mechanical (a local mechanic proudly servicing and repairing the cars of Newcastle) which is also owned and run by Cody McKay.
The driver
Stepping into the car for the Newcastle 500 (now rescheduled for its return in 2023), is Cody McKay, a proud Novocastrian, small business owner and motorsport enthusiast.
Cody’s motorsport background is a diverse one, encompassing 15+ years of racing. Throughout the years, he has had some incredible drives in everything from the EH Holden he grew up building and racing with his Dad on the dirt roads of the Variety Bash, to Legend Cars at Speedway.
Cody’s first official motorsport experience was behind the wheel of a kart at the Newcastle Kart Racing Club (NKRC). As Cody’s confidence and skills grew, he moved from Karts to Cars. Cody has experience racing and testing Formula Fords, Production Car Series, BMW E36 series, and Legend Cars. Cody has proven himself to be consistent, versatile, well skilled and aggressive on the track, whether that be dirt track, tar circuits or street circuit. And no matter what he is racing on or in, he is racing!
His latest challenge is racing alongside the V8 Supercars in the support category, (Aussie Racing Series) and like many of us, he can’t wait for the event to be held in Newcastle once again. The Aussie Racing Cars are considered one of the top support categories that travel with the V8 Supercar championship.
It has been said that Cody’s love for racing is matched only by his love for Newcastle. As a kid, he learned to drive on the very streets that the Newcastle 500 is taking place on. He’s a Newcastle Boy racing in Newcastle, and he thinks that life couldn’t get any better than that.
Off the track Cody spends most of his time running his business, Radical Mechanical. He lives in Merewether with his partner and pit-boss Aly, who calls the shots on and off the track.
The car
Aussie Racing Cars are powered by a 130hp 1300XJR Yamaha motorbike engine. Weighing only around 500kg, they see top speeds of up to 230km/hr (about the same as our property conveyancing team pre-Xmas) and lap times and corner speeds, are just shy of a V8 Supercar.
While all cars run the same chassis and engine setup, the body styling is the choice of the driver. In his 2022 car, Cody is racing a Holden Commodore (car 82 fondly named Carlie). The unique and distinct racing livery on this current car, is inspired by Cody’s personal brand and business.
The road ahead
While the bonnet of car 82 may see a different sticker for the 2023 racing calendar, RM Property Conveyancing will be watching and cheering on from the sidelines.
Like Cody, we keep our eyes on the prize for our clients who trust us with the sale or purchase of their property. Despite the vast differences between RM Property Conveyancing racing for exchange and McKay Motorsports racing for the finish line, when local businesses support one another, the town is truly the winner.
This sponsorship adventure really did put the RPM in RMPC!
