Protect your money from conveyancing scams
Property transactions involve large sums of money, which makes them a prime target for cyber criminals. Scammers hack or impersonate the emails of conveyancers, solicitors, real estate agents and banks, then send convincing messages with fake bank account details. Once money is transferred to a scammer, it is very often impossible to recover.
Warning signs to watch for
- An email, text or call telling you our (or the agent’s) bank details have changed.
- A request to pay urgently, or to keep a payment confidential.
- Emails that look genuine but have a slightly different address, logo or signature.
- Payment details sent as an attachment, link or invoice you were not expecting.

Before making any payment, you must telephone our office to obtain and confirm our full account details on 02 4018 7555.
We will never change our bank details by email or text
RM Property Conveyancing will never notify you of a change to our bank account details by email or text message. If you receive such a message, do not act on it. Call us immediately.
What the initial payment covers
A $400 initial payment
To prepare your Contract of Sale, we need an initial $400 payment by bank transfer.
It pays for your searches
It covers the majority of certificates and searches from authorities like council and the water authority, so it is non-refundable. It is deducted from the price we have already quoted you.
The rest is paid at settlement
Please do not transfer the whole amount. The remainder of the account is paid at settlement.
How you will receive our bank details
For your protection, we do not publish our bank details on this page.
Once you have paid, please email a copy of your transaction receipt to hello@rmpc.com.au. We will then order your searches immediately instead of waiting for the funds to arrive in our account.
Buying a property? Do not pay deposits to us
All 0.25% and 10% deposits for a property you are purchasing must go to the real estate agent’s trust account, never to RM Property Conveyancing.
If you think you have been targeted or have paid a scammer

Contact your bank immediately and ask them to stop or recall the payment. Time is critical.

Report the incident to ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au and to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
